A general is a major NPC working under a Daimyo, a powerful personage who is distinguished from their peers through combat, skill, or other ability. The term “general” refers not to the military rank, but rather is a catch-all term for these exceptional individuals. Generals in Tsuwamono fall under several ranks, each of which reflects how they level up in relation to the main party.
F-rank – These generals are the most inept, barely fit to be called exceptional. Example: Yasutane Hisatsuna. They cannot level up through any means.
D-rank – These generals are skilled in comparison to their peers, but not to any great degree. Example: Yoshitaka Hitsuie. They do not level up automatically, but may be leveled up through the expenditure of power.
C-rank – These generals are impressive individuals who possess a significant presence and ability to shape events. Example: Raizou. They begin to level up automatically once the player characters are 2 levels ahead of them, maintaining this distance, but may also be strengthened by the expenditure of power.
B-rank – These generals are remarkable individuals, of great power or skill, whose names are not recorded in history. Example: Tsukijo no Yumeno. This is the highest rank an original character can attain. They begin to level up automatically once the player characters are 1 level ahead of them, maintaining this distance, but may also be strengthened by the expenditure of power.
A-rank – These generals are incredible individuals whose names are marked down in the annals of history. This rank is reserved for interpretations of actual historical figures. Example: Ishikawa Goemon. They begin to level up automatically when the player characters reach their level, and continue to match the party’s level, or may be strengthened by the expenditure of power.
S-rank – These generals are heroes, those of whom legends are told. This rank is reserved for individuals who are both historical figures and are on a level that can be described as legendary. Example: Miyamoto Musashi. They begin to level up automatically when they are one level higher than the player characters, or the same level as the Daimyo, and keep this pace. S-rank generals can also be strengthened beyond normal limits by the expenditure of power, up to one level above that of the Daimyo.
SS-rank – These generals, exceedingly rare, are major individuals in history whose actions shaped entire periods. Alternatively, they may be divine or semi-divine beings who exist today only in mythology. Example: Abe no Seimei. They begin to level up automatically when they are two levels higher than the player characters, or one level above the Daimyo, and keep this pace. SS-rank generals cannot be strengthened beyond this limit.
